Summer’s almost done so it’s time for that last minute road trip with the BFF. There is a universal law stating that movies you wouldn’t watch alone at home seem like Oscar winners when on a long car ride. Here is our list of the best road trip movies, guaranteed to be winners on your next long haul.

If you like quirky… Little Miss Sunshine

Abigail Breslin stars in this hilarious heartfelt comedy. Watch the road trip unfold as her family drives across the country in a Volkswagen bus to get her into the finals of a beauty pageant.

If you love cult classics… Empire Records

This is a must-see for everyone in their teens and twenties, and all self-proclaimed hipsters. When their independent music store is threatened to be absorbed into a big chain, the employees do everything they can to save it. Oh and also watch because a young Liv Tyler is totally gorgeous.

If you love classics… Roman Holiday

Audrey Hepburn shows that your childhood dream of becoming a princess might not be as fun as you thought. She plays a bored princess who escaped her caretakers and falls in love with a classically hot American guy in Rome.

If you want a #TBT… Holiday In the Sun

When you get to that point in the car ride when you just want to watch something mindless but awesome, you know it’s the moment to hit up one of the old Mary Kate and Ashley movies. The twins play sisters Alex and Madison who are taken to the Bahamas for winter break but soon find themselves in an unexpected situation. Also be prepared for your jaw to drop at a young Megan Fox.

If you want to cry… Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants

You might cry because this movie reminds you of how much you miss your best friend, because SPOILER ALERT kids with cancer make you sad or because you’re sad you don’t have your own pair of major jeans. Either way, be prepared to laugh and cry as four girlfriends try to stay connected as their lives go in different directions during the summer. And be prepared to be a little envious of Blake Lively’s hair.

If you want to laugh… The Hangover

This movie is a whole other kind of trip. When three guys go on a bachelor party weekend in Vegas and wake up with the husband to be missing and no memory of what happened, they try to retrace their steps to find him before his wedding.

If you haven’t seen it… Thelma and Louise

It’s hard to write a road trip movie list without mentioning Thelma and Louise. The waitress and housewife live relatively mundane lives until a man attacks one of them and they shoot him, becoming instant fugitives. The pair take off in a ’66 Thunderbird.

If you love action… True Lies

This movie might not be about a road trip but it is definitely highly entertaining when you’re hitting the “I can’t sit in this car any longer” point of the trip. Watch Arnold Schwarzenegger play a fearless terrorist-battling secret agent who has his life turned upside down when he discovers his wife might be having an affair with a used car salesman. Watch this movie and sit on the edge of your seat in suspense, laugh at the jokes and then when it’s all over spend the rest of the car ride questioning how Arnold Schwarzenegger got elected as the governor of California.

If you love Britney Spears… Crossroads

A trip across the country is nothing without going down memory lane. This classic BFF movie stars Britney Spears, Zoe Saldana and Taryn Manning aka Kentucky! This flick will have you grabbing your BFF by the arm, crashing karaoke night and driving into the moon light. Oh and BRITNEY SPEARS!
