FYI: This new catchy song is going to be stuck in your head ALL day. We met with up and coming musician Scott Helman from Toronto, Ontario and chatted about music, inspiration and (most importantly?) his thoughts on love. The no. 1 song Cry, cry, cry was inspired by a past relationship (aww!) and he loves cute dates. Recently signed by Warner Canada, Helman is about to hit it big.
Check out his big brown eyes in this video, and our interview with him below.
Garage: Who would you love to collaborate with musically?
Scott: Too many. There’s so many people in the writing room I’d love to work with, and in contrast others on stage that would be incredible. The Flaming Lips are incredible performers, Cage the Elephant as well. So many great lyricist are coming through, as well as all my idols which I won’t even name. At the end of the day, wherever the world takes me is hard to control.
What is on your playlist right now?
Snarky Puppy – GroundUP (album)
White Fire – Angel Olsen
Heroes – David Bowie
World Peace – Dizzy Wright
We Can’t All Be Heroes – Wax
Ooh La La – Faces
Waiting Room – Fugazi
Half Moon Run
Do you believe in love at first sight?
In a way. I believe in lust at first sight. Lust can become love in different ways, sometimes it’s just a little more dangerous.
In five years, where do you want to be or what do you want to be doing?
What I’m doing right now, making music and playing shows. (And fall in love. Maybe get a cat that hates me. Who knows.) 🙂
